Critical checkpoints to identify ergonomic conflicts and prioritize layout decisions before finalizing your interior plans.
Circulation & Flow
- Does the primary traffic path cross directly through a seated conversation group?
- Is there at least 90cm of clearance between walls and large furniture items?
- Do door swings interfere with adjacent cabinets or other door openings?
Furniture Placement
- Is the television placed at a comfortable eye level (typically 105-115cm from floor)?
- Can everyone seated in the living area reach a surface for a drink without standing?
- Is there sufficient 'push back' space (approx. 80cm) behind dining chairs?
Sightlines & Privacy
- From the entry door, is the interior of any bathroom or bedroom visible?
- Does the sofa orientation maximize the best external view available?
- Is there a visual buffer between the cooking zone and the primary relaxation zone?
Lighting & Power
- Are light switches located exactly where you would naturally reach when entering?
- Are there electrical outlets within 1.5m of where any desk or bedside table will sit?
- Is natural light prioritized for work surfaces and kitchen prep areas?
Zoning Efficiency
- Are high-noise appliances (laundry/dishwasher) isolated from sleep zones?
- Is the 'work triangle' in the kitchen unobstructed by traffic or seating?
- Are active zones (living/dining) clearly separated from passive zones (bedroom)?
Utility & Storage
- Is there a dedicated landing surface for keys and mail near the entry?
- Is seasonal storage accessible without using a ladder or heavy lifting?
- Does every bedroom have adequate linear wall space for a full wardrobe?
